It’s hard to ignore someone

Who has their face in yours

All the time

Who bats at your mouth

And headbutts you when you sing

Who bites your hand lovingly

While you pet her chin

It’s hard to ignore someone

Who climbs up onto your side

While you lay in bed

To nuzzle your head

And remind you it’s time to eat

It’s hard to ignore someone

(And why would I want to?)

Who was with you as you grew up

There, on your pregnant belly

And climbing into the crib

To keep them safe

It’s hard to ignore someone
And I never will forget her

And I know I did the right thing

And I know I did the right thing

I did the right thing
But it’s hard to ignore
How you feel
Saying goodbye
